I’d like to take a moment to share with you a message from our former PTA Co-President, Sonya Tinsley Hook, who has been an inspiration to me. This a good reminder why we volunteer and what makes our community special. It is in our collective efforts in making things positive and beautiful that make a whole world of difference. Thank you Sonya! This message originally appeared as part of the last week of school blast sent last May 21, 2017.

RECOGNIZING BRIARLAKE’S STRONG PARENT COMMITMENT TO PTA We did it! Briarlake has just been named a 2016-18 National PTA School of Excellence! National PTA recognized 173 schools and PTAs representing 31 states and one Department of Defense school in Germany. Out of these 173 schools, there are 14 schools from Georgia and one from DeKalb County… our own Briarlake Elementary! This award acknowledges our school as a ‘nationwide leader in developing strong family-school partnerships.
Briarlake was the ONLY DeKalb County Elementary School PTA to earn the Model PTA designation! Briarlake’s PTA has earned the designation of Model PTA due to our excellent parent engagement, advocacy and partnership in the school community. Briarlake was acknowledged at the Georgia PTA Convention on Friday, June 24th and presented with an award by the Georgia PTA president, Lisa-Marie Haygood, at a 10th anniversary reception in honor of the Model PTA program.
